The most important meteorological, biological, geological-soil and anthropogenic factors influencing the condition of forest stands are presented. The methods and spatial distribution of research areas in Poland in the last twenty years were also presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key words:<\/strong> forest stand, defoliation, remote sensing,
