German inscriptions in the urban space of Toru\u0144 and Wroc\u0142aw \u2013 activism, proposed solutions, and public perception<\/h2>\n

Abstract:<\/strong> German signs in the urban space of Wroc\u0142aw and Toru\u0144 have become an object of interest for local activists. The research problem addressed in the article is the demands of the people involved in this issue, their experiences, the motivations behind their activities, the demands for the preservation of this form of cultural heritage, and the public perception of the activities according to the activists themselves. Representatives of analogous initiatives were interviewed: Spod tynku patrzy Breslau<\/em> [Breslau looks on from underneath the plaster] (Wroc\u0142aw) and Litero\u0142ap<\/em> [Letter-catcher] (Toru\u0144). The interviews were then subjected to theoretical reflection from the perspective of memory studies. It emerged from both that activism centred around inscriptions within urban space stems from one\u2019s own interests and meets with a positive response from the local community, while the reach is limited to history and heritage enthusiasts, resulting in being stuck in an information bubble.<\/p>\n
