The aim of the study was to show which naming tendencies exist in the contemporary urban names of Szczecin. The gathered onymic collection was subjected to semantic and formal analysis. On the basis of the study of the names of selected restaurants in Szczecin, it can be concluded that two opposing linguistic tendencies clash in the contemporary urban naming of Szczecin: 1. striving to revert to native names and 2. adopting foreign names.
