Abstract: The article presents the results of a study on the use of city parks by Warsaw residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analyses covered parks that are under the control of the Warsaw Greenery Board. A general description of parks in terms of their location and development was presented. The study results show that access to parks in Warsaw is varied. In several districts, there are no parks managed by the city authorities. Most parks are well-equipped and well-maintained spaces. During the pandemic, parks were treated by residents as a refuge of great importance for physical and mental health. The situation was similar in cities in other countries, but in Warsaw it was noticeable that the use of parks during the pandemic was less intensive. This particularly applied to seniors and children and adolescents. The imposed restrictions resulted in parks being dominated by adult users with children. The popularity of parks increased when the closure of shopping centers and sports and recreation facilities was extended. After the lockdown, parks, especially smaller ones of neighborhood importance, remained frequently visited spaces. This was the result of the discovery of previously unknown local resources by residents at a time when mobility was limited.

Abstract: The article presents the results of a study aimed at determining the impact of the pandemic on the everyday spatial behavior of Warsaw residents. This impact turned out to be substantial and it can be assumed that the observed changes will be permanent. The popularity of active mobility has increased and residents more often use services close to their place of residence. This proves that the implementation of the concept of sustainable urban mobility and a “15-minute” city based on a network of local centers can be a scenario for shaping the functional and spatial structure of the city.

Abstract: The article presents the results of a study on the location and characteristics of coworking spaces in Warsaw and their functioning during the pandemic. As part of the study, these spaces were inventoried and in-depth interviews were conducted with their selected representatives. Coworking spaces operate in 11 out of 18 districts of Warsaw. Their location is affected by transport accessibility, proximity to other services and office spaces where companies from various businesses are located. During the Covid-19 pandemic, coworking spaces were not closed. However, the way they function, the volume of services provided and the structure of users have changed. Coworking spaces have adapted to the new operating conditions and the prospects for their development in Warsaw are good.

Abstract: This article examines potential impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on key aspects of urban development: the functioning of individuals in physical sense (human bodies) in a city, urban morphology and landuse, urban mobility, as well as economic activities and service provision. The goal is to answer the question on how and to what extent the pandemic might reshape the cities and what the potential post-pandemic urban scenarios are. The analysed urban phenomena are projected against major dichotomy of urban ghettos vs. urban commons. The former is defined as further social segregation and spatial isolation, whereas the latter is based on multiple ideas inspired by the original definition of a city by Lewis Mumford. The article is concluded with two basic, symbolic, and opposite scenarios highlighting the fact that the pandemic might have opened a window of opportunity for cities to rethink their development pathways and reinvent their cultural, as well as socio-economic role.
